Day 6 – Tuesday 1st October 2019 – Karanga Camp (4,002 metres)

Day 6 – Tuesday 1 October 2019 – Karanga Camp (4,002 metres)

5-6 hrs trekking today.

Our first challenge today is a climb and scramble over the volcanic rock of the Barranco Wall.  On reaching the top, we have a well-earned snack break and enjoy fantastic views over to Barafu and Mount Meru.

Daren is feeling much better today.  He was very worried.  We are are at top of Barranko Wall and we will sleep here tonight.  Its hammering down with rain and that means snow at the summit.  Doctor has given me Diamox to try and counter the altitude sickness.

We then head onward to Karanga Camp, through the Karanga Valley, where we enjoy an afternoon acclimatisation walk followed by an early night!

We are at Karanga camp now.  The constant battering and altitude makes me emotional every now and then but I’m feeling strong.  Will have to use pain killers as my knee is hammered.

Tim was sick in the night but feeling better today.

Brian is smashed to bits, he has struggled from Day 2 but the man has the heart of a lion.

John has a bad blister on his foot being treated by Doctor.  We are battered, hurting and tired but not out.  Thinking of you, Jackie P keeps me going.  I love you xxx say Hi to the kids and tell them I will put a Heart Shaped Rock on top of the Barranko wall today that will always be there.

Miss you all XXX
